Software compliance in SOX, Corporate Governance, ITIL and other market standarks and government regulations

Course Description

This course explores and explains the dynamics of Software compliance throughout different regulatory laws and market-related standards. Students analyze and debate on government postures on Software Compliance and Intellectual Property Protection around the world. Further students analyze the positive or negative effects of complying with certain market regulations associated with software compliance.

Objectives

  • · Students will understand the extent of keeping software compliance under different regulations and government-specific laws.
  • · Students will learn from techniques and examples how to make well-documented decisions adjusted to the reality of the market where software is deployed.
  • · Students will exercise real-life cases through role playing to either support or oppose software compliance based on financial constraints, legal risks, technological threats and other commonly found problems when managing software licensing.

Requiered Background

Students in this course will requiere knowledge on IT management. Contract administration and International Business is also relevant.

3 classes a week (1hr each) during eight weeks. Total hours is 24hrs.

Grading

  • · You must complete 2 essays per week during the first 5 weeks.
  • · You must complete 1 essay per week for weeks 6 and 7.
  • · (team activity) You must successfully write a group analysis on a case study related to an IT Platform Deployment (SW and HW), and the impact certain technological changes have in the licensing scenario defined. Must be submitted by the end of week 8.
  • · All essays equal 70% of the course´s grading and the team activity will account for 30% of the course´s grading.
  • · The course is successfully completed is you rate 85% of more in your class work.
  • · You can only miss one essay during the entire class. Failure to deliver at least 11 essays will result in course cancellation.
